The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is boosting renewable energy in Egypt and Jordan. Under the EBRD’s US$ 500 million framework for renewable energy in Egypt, the EBRD is financing 16 new solar power plants, making it the single largest investor in renewable energy in the country with 750 MW of solar capacity and are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 900,000 tonnes a year.
Ukraine is exploring a project to build a 4 Gigawatt solar power plant within the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. Some of the infrastructure at the former nuclear power station can be repurposed for solar power, and there's a ready supply of personnel skilled in electricity generation and distribution.
