The project covered six European countries (incl. Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Austria, Spain) and Turkey. Private investors and decision makers in banks and insurance companies were introduced to the new business models, allowing them to include these results in their decision process as regards new investments. The project also assessed what political framework for the application of new financing models is required and which barriers slow the PV expansion.
The project aims at demonstrating and introducing into the market key enabling technologies to improve predictability and flexibility of a Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plant with molten salt energy storage. These technologies are the design and operation of molten salt once-through steam generator, allowing fully flexible plant operation and an integrated weather forecast and dispatch optimization, allowing fully predictable energy dispatch. CSP will undergo large growth in developing markets, where grid constraints and market liberalization will play a role. Developing these key-enabling technologies will put European industries in the position to compete at the forefront in the market worldwide.

The main vision of CABRISS is to develop a circular economy mainly for the photovoltaic, but also for electronic and glass industry. In Chad, less than five per cent of the population has access to electricity. Outside urban areas, it’s practically zero. A generator fuelled by diesel, is required to provide power. Emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from fossil fuels are contributing to climate change and cause widespread harm to lives, communities, infrastructure, institutions and budgets. Working with its partners, UNIDO has built solar power stations in three different parts of the country, serving three different groups of beneficiaries (incl. an irregation system for more efficient agricutlure, power sypply to local businesses, strieet lighting, etc.)
This webinar will give an overview of auctions in other relevant industries, such as industrial procurement auctions, auctions for telecommunications licenses, auctions for refinancing operations, and others. It will describe the main features of these auctions including goals, market conditions, auction formats and their reputation. We will then present the main similarities and differences to RES support and derive some potential lessons learned for the design of RES auctions.
This webinar will introduce how auctions can be used as instrument to allocate support for renewable energy sources (RES) in the electricity sector and to determine the adequate support level. We will present the requirements of the State Aid Guidelines of the European Commission for competitive elements in RES support schemes, give an overview over the expected timing of implementation and discuss the defined exceptions. Based on the analyses undertaken in the AURES project, we will then present which auction formats and pricing rules may be suitable for RES auctions and mention the most crucial design elements. This paper investigates new approaches to enhance recovery of valuable materials during the recycling of crystalline Si (cSi) PV modules. Also recycling can help to further reduce carbon and environmental footprint of cSi PV. Two approaches to enhance recyclability of frame are tested, glass, and silicon. This webinar will give practioners the first hands-on information on the design of RES auctions. Here, we will go through the selecting of adequate auction formats and pricing rules for RES auctions. We base our recommendations on the ongoing theoretical and experimental analysis work currently undertaken by auction experts in the AURES project. We will show how the selection of the appropriate design depends on specific policy goals and market conditions in a country. We also present how certain designs may score in terms of different success criteria (such as effectiveness, efficiency, socio-political feasibility and more), and what trade-offs and synergies may arise between criteria.
