Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (Terms and Conditions for recognition and issuance of Renewable Energy Certificate for Renewable Energy Generation) Regulations, 2010.

As per the powers conferred by the Electricity Act, 2003, CERC provides for regulations for the development of renewable energy markets in India. The instruments used for the purpose are:

Renewable purchase obligation- Obligated entity are bound to purchase a certain percentage of their energy requirement by renewable energy sources. The percentages are set by various SERCs based on each state’s varying energy potentials.
Renewable energy certificates- Instruments representing renewable energy which are aimed at addressing the mismatch of renewable energy resources in the states and their RPO requirements
